Zenporium is a small business established by a husband and wife team through a spark of spontaneity while honeymooning in South-East Asia. After hopping tropical islands and jungle camps in search of adventure, the couple took time to seek out exotic furniture for their home.
The search led them to remote areas where furniture was made by local artisans using simple tools with crafty hand work and a great deal of imagination. Artisans demonstrated their ability to transform old wood into unique rustic, modern-organic and natural designs.
The couple worked with these artisans on developing functional hybrids of design and function, using high quality woods that are naturally beautiful and readily available. Salvaged or reclaimed from various sources, base woods used to build furniture were derived from retired fishing boats, uprooted coffee plantation trees, old rail wood and demolished teak structures.
Impassioned by a green approach to furniture building and a natural twist to urban space design, the couple leapt into the business design-build and selling furniture.
Launched in October 2010, Zenporium Furnishings & Accessories opened its first store in Toronto, offering its products to retail, wholesale, as well as a wide spectrum of professional customers. The brand has since evolved to offer ready-made and custom designs tailored for as wide a range of spaces as one’s imagination allows.
